LoL - I've got official warning from Riot xD

Salve!

Recently I've received official warning from Riot, advising me to stop trolling because further destroying of other people "experience" will result in ban. I was like: "are those guys for real?". I'm getting trolled almost every game by afker, leaver or otherwise some arrogant idiot, their team play and personal skill is horrible at best and I'm the one getting reported. Well I'm not consider myself being guilty as charged because I'm being entertaining so I'm enhancing other people experience and I'm being extremely helpful by giving advices and pro tips, so I don't know what the fuck is your problem, Riot... Anyway more on that in my newest vid:
Since I'm on topic of videos, I realise I've been really lazy recently, I'm hoping I could change it in near future. I'm wondering if I should do some Let's Play of adventure/rpg games like Portal or Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, we will see.

Speaking of my channel, I've recently discovered that I can change my videos thumbnails. So since yesterday I'm uploading new thumbnails for every of my videos. I'll let you know if that process is finished. You can see the results of changes I've done thus far here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Anhellius/videos?view=0

I'm recently out of ideas/motivation to write for Hydramist. The reason being I just don't get the feedback I counted on as people there expect just Hydra or Wow to be covered. I have no interest in WoW and I consider myself rather a variety gamer as opposed to being focused on one single game. That being said I'm not saying I'll never write there again. I'll just probably ramble here from time to time ^^

Thanks for patience to read my bullshit,

Anh

Tilting at fanboys - story continues.

It was a beautiful day in Irwine, sunny California. On my way to work I was thinking about very important meeting in R&D department. I was generally calm person, however a shadow of anxiety crawled through my mind. "Oh, I have a bad feeling about this" I thought to myself while I was about to step through the gateway of hell... I mean, the glorious company that I dreamt to work for since I was a teenager. As it turned out my prediction was right.

Receptionist throw me a fake smile as I was on my way to R&D. I didn't mind it much. Maybe because I wasn't looking at her face, my eyes were glued to huge breast emerging from unpinned shirt. "Oh the things I would've done with you...". My erotic fantasies were violently interrupted by sharp voice of Greg Street.
- You're finally here! I was expecting you a little bit earlier, after all you're about to see what we've been working on for past few years, and I assure you it's huge.

- But, sir, I know R&D are really slacky, which is not surprising, barely anyone works in this company anymore.

- Oh, will you just shut it? Follow me, I have no time for explanations, but I can tell you one thing, the stuff you've seen until now, it was just an cover up.

I had to follow him. From that moment, we travelled together, East. Always... into the East.

On the east wall he placed his hand on the wall and I've heard sinister creak coming from the underground. "Stand back from this plate, would you?" said ... I quickly jumped aside and observed how floor shuffled itself and elevator appeared.
"After you" Greg said.

I had no choice, but to enter the lift. Inferior was looking quite futuristic. Coloured buttons covered one side of this circular place. I felt drops of sweat as we were descending. The elevator has stopped on 12 levels underground. Aluminium doors finally opened. Sinister smile appeared on Greg’s face. We were walking through dark, rigid, cold corridors. Dim, teal light was stroking us. And then I've seen that no one should've seen. Cylindrical cells filled with green, glowing gel and some dark shadows. Human curiosity pushed me close to one of tanks, I wanted to examine the shadow inside of it. Suddenly misshaped head hit the tank wall.

"Oh, my fucking god" I've screamed as I jumped back away. My heart was rushing like a fastest horse in gallop, I literately felt the blood pumping in my veins, I felt dizzy and I was about to faint, unfortunately I didn't. I wish I had though. I wish I had and never woke up again. However blissful ignorance was not my destiny.

- What the hell is this?! - I yelled him.

- Pull yourself together! Stop acting like a child, this isn't mature form in here, we have more advanced forms just on the other side of this corridor.

- Are you cloning people here?! - I still could not believe it.

- Well, not really. We are creating them from the scratch, but you can call them clones if that's easier for you.

- That is insane! - I wasn't hiding my strong disapproval. - Not to mention, it's highly unmoral.

- Well that doesn't matter, as long as we are making profit, don't you know, that the single reason of corporation existence is to make profit?

- But this? This?! We were creating games, for people enjoyment, not damn clones.

- Ah, you are so short-sighted. We did not create them to sell them. We did make them to help sell our games, you see it's cheaper to actually make them, then to make a good games, at least at our current rate of wages. - Grim smiled glimpsed through his face. - With their help we can sell anything, they will provide a free advertising for us, so we can make even more profits in the long run. They will be fanatics of Blizzard, genetically engineered to fight our competition.

- But sir? Sir! Would you do this for video game, virtual reality, money? Sacrifice every bit of your human nature, sell your soul to the devil? This... this is madness, this is BLIZZARD!!

- Silence, you maggot! I am the incarnation of Grom Hellscreem, proud warchief of the Horde. We shall crush other companies the same way we've crushed the Alliance scum, no matter what it takes and what sacrifices we will have to make. Our soldiers are faithful, obedient and countless. They shall swarm every forum and comment section, stomping our competition into the ground.

They are our ultimate weapon.

They are the clones.

They are the Fanboys.

Bashing fan boys with heavy hammer

Fan (fanboy) is an abbreviation from FANatic. Indeed, we shall no longer fool ourselves. That is where this word is coming from. I shouldn’t remind you that fanaticism carries a burden of negative connotations and righteously so. Throughout history we’ve encountered many form of fanaticism. Fanatic can act uncritically with great zeal or passion on many different areas. Religious (God wills it, thus we shall purge heathens by holy flame), nationalistic (Germany before WW2), racial (Ku Klux Klan). In our modern society we developed new form of fanaticism: sports (which can be stretched to e-sports as well) and products, I’ll take a closer look at the last form.

Of course there is many kinds of products, however we won’t be discussing disputes between Coca-Cola and Pepsi (because everyone knows Pepsi is much better). Do you see what I did there?

Instead we rather focus about something we care about, which is  games.

In general fanboys claim they love one game or game genre and hate everything else. Is it because they just spend 60 $ and they are trying to prove before themselves and whole world they didn’t waste money on that purchase. Or it’s just “my way or the highway” thinking (which is completely wrong, because I’m not [nor is anybody else] affected in my choice of favourite games by anyone else tastes). It is not for me to judge narrowed opinions of fanboys (which seem to occupy this page as well, looking at reaction to my recent blog).

Despite their motives, fanboys will plague comment sections, chat rooms and forums just to prove some genre or game is better than another in every possible way. I’ll use Starcraft and League of Legends as a example of a quarrel between two groups of fanboys.

Both games are very well known on e-sport scene, being ones of most popular games when it comes to competitive play. However despite the fact Starcraft and LoL can coexist, some groups of people seem to think (however I’m not sure if they are capable of actual thought process) otherwise. The main argument against LoL is that it doesn’t take as much skill as Starcraft, but does it really take less PERSONAL skill then Starcraft? Certainly does. Does it take less skill in general then Starcraft? Probably yes, however communication and teamwork are very important skills and main factors deciding whenever game is won or lost. So it may seem less skilful for you, without a doubt. You may say: “I don’t enjoy it because it is not at skilful as SC2. “But do you really hate this game? It’s only a game after all and hate and love are opposite, but they are the strongest emotions human can feel. So next time when you think: I love this game, consider if it’s really love. How would you describe feelings for your family/partner/friends then? I know sometimes people tend to colloquially state: “oh, I love it”, however they don’t really mean it. Real meaning of this colloquial expression would be more like: I really enjoy it, and I think it is great. It goes the same way about hatred, it’s just the opposite. Of course you don’t even have to use word “hate” to drop shitbomb on some game (quotes from Hydramist comments): “There is nothing worse in the world than LoL” or “Hydramist covering LoL? Your heading the wrong way, this is the way of pathetic people”.

If you can’t be more open minded about topics we write about, you may as well stop visiting this page, you’ll be better off without us, and we will be better off without you.

For example I don’t like sports and racing games, main reason being I rather play football in real life instead of doing it on computer. However I’m far from saying I hate sports games, I hate Fifa and everything connected with it. If Hydramist would start covering Fifa (it is an WCG title after all) I could:

a)      Skip the article, because topic doesn’t interest me at all.
b)      Read the article, because I like blogger or general Hydramist way of doing things. However I wouldn’t leave comments like: “omg, fifa sux, fire the writer, he is shit, stop covering this pathetic game” or “Omg, fifa again, I quit hydramist foreva” instead I would just remain silent or say something like “While I don’t enjoy fifa as a game, it was good read, you made interesting points/I enjoyed your coverage of recent tournament”

Both A and B are good option of doing things. However if you would write “shit article, I’ll never visit your page again” our reaction would be like:
a)      Bye
b)      We don’t care cause we have hundreds of thousands readers and one person leaving wouldn’t make a different
c)       We would rather enjoy smaller but smarter and more open minded community
Looks like I went a little bit off-topic here L FML
To the point then,

It is yours and ONLY YOURS decision to like some title or not. If you are talking about it publicly try to remain civic and objective. Accept you are not the only person in the world and other people may think differently and may like different music, films and games than you. Try to find things you have in common instead of mindlessly bashing other people. And with this sentence I’m done with tilting at windmills, erm... fanboys.

For Charity! Get them games.

Humble Bundle V is out

In case if you are not familiar with what Humble Bundle is, let me explain it quickly. You pay how much you want for a bundle of indie games. The money you pay, you can distribute as you want between game developers, charity organization and company hosting this sale.  If you Pay more than the average of $7.64 you can unlock bonus game, which is Bastion this time around. You are getting soundtracks to all games in FLAC or MP3 format. Want a steam product keys? No problem, they are included. Are you excited already? Let me just tell you latest edition of Humble Indie Bundle comes with the best games it ever has (in my opinion anyway). Titles like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Psychonauts, Limbo, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP + Bastion speaks for themselves. Let’s take a closer look at them in case you are unfamiliar with ‘em.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Favourite game of Lord Hydra. Period. It’s a first person survival horror. Experience nightmares that will scare shit out of you. Explore desolated castle and find out what secrets are buried within it. Immerse frightening surroundings. Wondering what Amnesia can done to you? Just watch Hydra playing it here:

You can find more Amnesia videos on his youtube channel. They are worth it.

Limbo

Another creepy game, but instead of being survival horror, it’s puzzle-solving platformer. The beautiful, mysterious, eerie story of a boy on a journey through Limbo, a land where everything is trying to kill him in a most vicious manner. The game soundtrack is nonexistent, so you might think it is terrible. However, you couldn’t be more wrong. Creepy sounds accompany you as you travel through this dark, shadowy world. The unique, black and white graphic style of this title has charmed me like no other game in a long time.  I recommend you play this game at night with the lights out to make experience even better.

Psychonauts

Psychonauts is quite unique adventure game with strongly exposed action elements. You take control of a little boy with paranormal abilities called Rasputin. In your journey through the game powers of telekinesis, levitation and invisibility will help you solve the mysteries Most interesting aspect of Psychonauts (which distinguish it from other similar games) is that you have a chance to explore other people minds. Literately.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery

Now this is weird game. Graphic is lacking a little, but it’s indie game after all. PC version of adventure game released before on iPad in 2011. This game revolves on classic point-n-click interface, so if you like to search through every location in order to find tips which will help you solve the puzzles, then it’s a game for you. To make it a little more interesting from time to time you will encounter simple combat sections.

Bastion

Bastion is one of most original released in 2011. Game itself is a action rpg, but don’t confuse it with Diablo by any means. Charming, hand – painted artwork dazes with its beauty. Critically acclaimed soundtrack and hours of reacting narration will accompany you through exploring Calamity. Many weapon upgrades remains to be unlocked alongside with six Bastion structures to be discovered. Shall you finish the main story, there is a New Game Plus mode waiting to be played through.

For dem kidz!

For me getting this bundle is a no-brainer, so many great games for such a cheap price (you can always pay more, don’t let this “cheap price” discourage you). Plus there is a chance to help charity. Here are the links for both charity organizations, remember you can support one of them, none or all of them.

Few thoughts about Diablo 3

Many of you probably can’t wait to get your hands on the beta for the newest Diablo. Is it worth it though? What does Diablo 3 beta have to offer to casual gamers and avid, hardcore Diablo fanatics? Find out and read more.

If you are interested in Diablo, you’ve probably already seen a lot of videos about it on YouTube, as it’s been covered by most of the major gaming channels. Even if you haven’t watched anything, I’ll provide you with some basic details. Every class is available in beta and at the end of beta there is only one major boss – Skeleton King. It takes about 1-2 hours to get to him and defeat him; time might vary depending on how much you want to spend on exploring caves and other locations you do not have to go in order to finish the game. Maximum level available is 13, but it can be finished at level 7-9 without any problems whatsoever. As there is no PvP modes in beta, nor higher level PvE, grinding to level 13 is not necessary at all, as all you can get is additional skills and the option to wear better equipment, which is pointless as beta is too easy without it. You also have option to level up your blacksmith, so he can craft a better gear for you.

Gameplay is almost the same as in previous Diablo games. If you were expecting an FPS or RTS, you will be disappointed. Most of the time you will be killing vicious creatures or exploring dungeons. Some locations are randomly generated, while others always look the same. The random map generator ensures every play through will be different, so grinding should not be dull. There are a good variety of monsters in beta, each of them have a description read by Decard Cain or some other in-game character. Those notes are very well done if it comes to voice acting as well as actually describing the strengths and weaknesses of each monster.

There are 2 modes of play in beta: single and multiplayer. Solo mode is exactly the same as it was in previous Diablo games. In multiplayer you can form a party consisting of 4 characters (it was 8 in Diablo 2), you can make an arranged team as well as be assigned to random players. The main difference between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 multiplayer mode is in Diablo 3 each player receives loot separately, you cannot even see what item drops for another characters. It is major improvement from previous series, where the player who looted items faster was the one to receive them. As far as cooperation goes, every class can provide something useful to the party: barbarians make natural tanks, monk can heal and support with mantras (aura effects), demon hunter and wizard have a lot of crowd control abilities, etc. Given the difficulty in beta no cooperation is required though.

Realm of the Mad God

Hi boys and girls! ;)

After a long break I am back with another review. Today I will have a closer look at Realm of the Mad God, a MMO hack and slash with retro style audiovisuals.

Realm of the Mad Dog was developed by indie studio - Wild Shadows and it was released as a browser game in flash. However since about one month it is available on Steam as well. Steam version provides access to Steam achievements if someone cares about such things, some of the trophies are very easy to get (like for example unlocking new class), but there is plenty of accomplishments that require dedication or simply luck. Steam port is not, however bug free as you can sometimes encounter input lag that doesn’t occur in browser version. Developers have promised to fix it, but they haven’t thus far.

I’m writing about achievements and input lag, but you still have no idea what this game is all about. Basically it is a 2D hack and slash. In randomly generated world danger lurks around every corner. And I mean literately. At higher levels game get frustratingly hard, you have to be really quick and agile to dodge all incoming attacks. And if you fail at it, you die and resurrection in Realm of the Mad God is nonexistent. Think about it like Diablo on permanent hardcore mode. I find this aspect fun and really appealing to me. In times when every major game developer is lowering skill cap in their products, punishing for every single mistake brings refreshment and pleasing nostalgic feeling. But even if you die, you should not be worried, as that is perfect opportunity to create another character. So far there is 13 classes in Realm of the Mad Dog, every one of them have a single ability that distinguish it from others. Though you start you adventure with just wizard class unlocked. In order to unlock you need to get your wizard to at least 5 level. However more advanced classes aren’t that easy to obtain. For example to unlock necromancer you have to advance both priest and wizard to level 20, which is level cap in this game. Now, you might be thinking that unlocking new characters is everything you can do, but it is not. Throughout playing the game you earn Fame Points, which you can collect by defeating bosses, exploring the world and helping low level players rank up. There is even a weekly, monthly and all-time rating for competitive players tracking characters that managed to obtain highest fame points score. The is only form of competition as you can’t PvP in Realm of the Mad Dog. But since game mechanism promotes cooperating with others there is no reason not to do it. Besides getting fame for helping others you are getting the same amount experience if you are killing mobs on your own, or with 84 other people (85 is maximum number of players per realm). The fastest way to level is just to travel together in so called “trains” and steamrolling through mobs, getting all the fat experience. A feature called teleport is allowing you to... hmm... teleport instantly to any other players within a world, so it is yet another element allowing to enjoy playing with others.

Graphic and music are truly old school. If I had to compare it to some other game it would be Space Invaders. Is it deliberate action to gave Realm of the Mad God extremely retro stylization or plain laziness by developers? It’s not for me to judge, but while I don’t mind graphics at all, however during longer game sessions music can get annoyingly repetitive (just as it did in old games). Fear not, as you can always turn it off and enjoy the songs from your favourite music player.

Realm of the Mad God is free to play game using microtransaction system. You cannot buy power, only a little things like additional character slots (as you start with just one) and bank slots.
I have had enormous fun while playing this game for first time, and I am still getting some enjoyement out of it. Realm of the Mad God takes no space on hard drive, cost nothing, it can fill your spare time while you are waiting for some of your friends to come online, or can be standalone a good product. I enjoyed the high skill cap when it comes to dodging attacks of higher level bosses and punishing difficulty level. What are you still doing here? Go ahead play it on http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/ or download it via your steam account.

You can find it here.
As always it comes with video, which I made a little different than usually. Here is the vid:

Hope you like it.
See you later, shitlords!
